I knew we could not escae the illness that comes with late winter for long. With the on and off weather here and all the kids at daycare coughing on me as I go to pick up Jack, he was sure to bring something home. And he has.
Jack has coughed for the past 12 hours straight! Off to the doctor he goes
Unbelieveable. It was like a case of rotating beds last night, John went to Jack's bed to give him mediicine and try to calm him to sleep. I went up and visited after another hour of coughing to strategize with John . John brought Jack down to our bed to keep his head raised up to help the coughing. I took Alex to the guest bed to get her away from Jack's coughing. Ginger got kicked out of the guest bed when we arrived. Ginger moved to her rightful place in her dog bed on the floor.
And poor Alex had her 2 month checkup and got 4 shots. Ain't nothin' pretty about that.

Toddler Heaven
On Sunday, we took Jack to see Sesame Street Live. Jack watches Seasame Street every day after school while we prepare dinner, so we were sure this would be a big hit. So it surprised us when the show started and Jack stared for a bit and then scooched over next to me, clenched my arm tight and developed the pouty mouth look. My instinct is that the characters from SS suddenly leaping from the television into life-size dancing on the stage in front of him freaked him out just a bit. So we calmly watched for the first few numbers. Then John got him on his lap and started getting him to sing and clap with the numbers. Suddenly, the fear disappeared and Jack realized "Holy smokes, Big Bird and Ernie are dancing right before my eyes in person. How did I never see this before?"

Chatty...
Jack had his first real friend phone call yesterday. Yes, he has talked on the phone before to grandparents and uncles. Usually he says he wants to talk and then freezes like a deer in the headlights when the person answers the phone. Only repeats exactly what Mommy and Daddy tell him to say.
"Jack, tell Dotti hello"
"Hello"
"Jack, tell Dotti thank you for the present."
"Thank you for present"
And it is all usually done in half-whispers, not sure if he really wants the person to hear what he has to say.
But yesterday, Jack talked about his friend Perrin all the way home from school. We have been seeing Perrin for a lot of weekend playdates and Jack talks about him all week, insisting that we "go to Perrin's house now" or "Get Perrin in car and bring him over." They make a great pair since Jack tends to be on the quiet side and Perrin loves to talk. So last night, after Jack talked about Perrin all the way home, John asked if he wanted to call Perrin on the phone. Jack loved the idea. Here is the subsequent phone call.
I love the video, with Perrin talking up a storm, Jack easily distracted by any object in his sight but occasionally breaking in to make sure his friend is still on the phone. And check out the Texas accent "Perrin, you thay-er?"

Dinner at my house
Jack: (sitting at table) Yogurt, I want yogurt!
Mommy: Jack, you've had three yogurts today, one in the last 10 minutes. Dinner is almost ready.
(Dinner is served and all sit down. Baby is on couch asleep, perfect timing for adults to eat dinner. Mom lifts fork to mouth to start dinner. Cue Baby Alex)
Baby Alex: Wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
Mom and Dad: Blahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblah
blahblahblahblahblahblahblah (note: content not really important as conversation is almost completely drowned out by baby's cries and interrupted frequently by Jack)
Jack: (in perfect imitation of Jersey Mobster) Daddy, what are you doing? Mommy, what are you doing?
Baby Alex: Wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
(Mom now shoving food down throat as fast as possible, recognizing limited time to get nourishment before reaching Baby Defcom 5)
Dad: Jack, eat your dinner please.
Jack: Daddy, eat your dinner. Mommy, eat yours.
Baby Alex: Wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
(Mom gets baby and begins nursing.)
Dad: Do you want the pillow to put on your lap to prop her up? (Stands up to get pillow, just as Jack turns in chair and knocks over milk with elbow, sending milk waterfall off table onto floor)
Jack: I spilt it! I spilt it!
Baby Alex: (Alarmed at shouts, pulls off breast, sending sprays of milk onto Mom's shirt and onto Alex's face) Wahhhhhhhhhhhh!
Jack: (Getting out of chair) I'll clean up, I spilt it! (Promptly steps straight into dog's water dish and now has soaking wet sock) Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!
Dad: (Looking at Mom, both laughing uncontrollable) You're going to write about this on the blog, aren't you?
